♥ Fall/Winter 2009 Leather Jackets ♥

Have you noticed, the leather jacket has gotten sexier and more versatile? A good leather jacket should be able to be worn with anything from a grungy pair of jeans to a cocktail dress.

For this fall and winter, the cool leather jacket trend is hitting the fashion industry. It is not only big on runway shows, but also proved massive on the street. If theres one thing you should have in your wardrobe this season, of course, its a stylish jacket. Everybody will finally find one that is perfectly fit your body shape and style. Every girl should try at least once in her life to steal her boyfriends jacket. This season, the masculine, oversize boyfriend blazer has returned from the eighties. As the name shows, Its supposed to look like the jacket you borrowed from your boyfriend: oversized, big shouldered and boxy. The Spring 2010 shows in New York including Stella McCartney and Alexander Wang are filled with them. It can instantly add the masculine character and encourage you being methodical. You will become more self-confident as soon as you wear one. While, if you have no interest in building authority and brush aside the standard, then the motorcycle jacket might be perfect for you. It has been a wardrobe staple in all of our closets for some time. Remember black and grey ones will never go out of style.

That half the world wants to wear a leather jacket is not exactly breaking fashion news right now. What is news—well, at least—there are the racks of stores to find a favorite: the bold-shoulder Balmain biker; the architectural Phi; the wrapped Rick Owens; the Zero Maria Cornejo curved shrug; the Vince lambskin motorcycle jacket; A.L.C.’s asymmetric number; and the white oversize biker from Alexander Wang.
Let’s back up for a moment. My love affair with leather jackets should shed some light on the influences that have shaped my idea of the ideal one, all of them from movies. There is that scene in Grease when the newly transformed Olivia Newton-John grinds a cigarette into the grass with her red platform wooden heels and says, “Tell me about it, stud,” that I just love. What stands out most about that scene was that her wearing the jacket signaled a shift, a liberation of sorts; it radiated a good girl–gone–bad ethos that was a sexy, refreshing change from all her contrived girlishness. Other examples of the emancipating properties of leather jackets: the amazing Belstaff one Cate Blanchett wore for her portrayal of Bob Dylan in I’m Not There; Angelina Jolie’s badass zipper-front biker in Wanted; Charlie’s iconic brown jacket that she wears on Maverick’s motorcycle in Top Gun; and a bomber-clad Hilary Swank in Amelia.

It seems like black is the first choice for most people, but brown is a good choice for this season!

This season it's all about mixing soft and edgy, with leather being one of the "It" materials for designers, who experimented with its soft qualities. For those who feel the classic motorcycle leather jacket might be a bit too tough for their feminine image, these soft ruffled options could be a perfect fit this fall.
